What is the difference between a smog check station and a smog check and repair station?

Some smog check stations are only authorized to perform smog checks. These stations are known as Test Only Stations. Other stations are licensed smog check stations that can perform smog check as well as smog check repairs. These smog stations are known as Smog Test and Repair stations.

We are a licensed Smog Test and Repair station.

Our smog checks are on a 1st come 1st serve and usually take about 30 minutes from start to finish.

What is the Smog Check Program?

The Smog Check Program is the State of California’s effort to improve the quality of the air we breathe. The Smog Check Program removes hundreds of tons of smog-forming pollutants from California's air every day. Smog Check inspections are designed to identify vehicles with excess emissions so they can be properly repaired to meet state and federal emissions standards.

Who is required to have a smog check?

Smog check are require every other year for registration renewal of:

•    1976 and newer model-year gas-powered, hybrid, and flex-fuel vehicles
•    1998 and newer model-year diesel-powered vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 14,000 pounds and less
•    As of April 2015 Hybrid

New vehicle up to six years are not subject to the every-other-year Smog Check requirement since newer vehicles are considered cleaner, and less likely to fail a Smog Check.

New vehicles up to four years old do not require a Smog Check upon change of ownership.
